Welcome all to Coventry's organizing page for the VoxElyria early access server! Everyone interested in trying out the voxel server are encouraged to join us on it regardless of any kingdom you are or are not pledged to. While members of Coventry and Aranor will be around we also view this as a great time to bring anyone together to test out the game and just hang out.
That said we do want to do constructive things during our early days with the game as well such as:
Getting to know members of the community better, answer their questions, and talk about plans for the game on the server and in our discord here
Explore the map and and see what terrain and biomes are like
Build and craft to see what all can be made in the game
Keep track of what mechanics are being added and work together to test out mechanics and attributes
Report on tests to the devs to help find and fix bugs as soon as possible and help speed up development
Offer incentives to those who do want to join the county early on
At first only those with Alpha 1 access will be allowed to access the server, then Alpha 2 and so on. This means that only kings, dukes, counts, and some barons and mayors will have access in the beginning. It is our hope that we will be able to discuss how things are going with others who are interested in joining us, such as on Discord, but ultimately it depends on the NDA as to what can be said and what can be posted. This page will be updated with the latest shareable knowledge regarding when access will be expanded. Currently the first people are allowed into the server sometime in early 2018. We will certainly be happy to answer any other questions people have about the game on our discord that can be reached here.
The purpose of the early release of VoxElyria is to give early access members a chance to get a feel for the game before committing to a kingdom or any particular course of action in the game, but it is also about playtesting bugs in the client and core mechanics before moving too far ahead and burying them below all the other stuff that has to be added later. This has the chance to make CoE a very smooth and well running game from the outset. Surely the devs will have ways to report bugs to them and we encourage everyone to take the time to do so. However, we can use our group to test the mechanics in all manner of ways, especially when players are interacting in order to create an internal list of known bugs in one place that can allow us to keep track of these things and help the devs out if they come to us with any questions about what we are experiencing as a whole. If we are allowed to post this information we will, otherwise we will let people already on the server know about it.
Opportunities to Join
We will not be pushing people to join the county or kingdom. The primary purpose is to build a community and help with testing, but there will be incentives to those who choose to join the county during VoxElyria in the form of tax reductions. Those interested can get more information on the forums here. If people ask us about this on the server we may give out information, but otherwise we will not spam it.
What to Expect
So what will we get to do when we first get into the game? It's possible that for the very first people all that can be done is to log in and run around the voxel world. The first mechanics that will be focused on will be physics/collision and movement/transportation. So basically the devs are just trying to create a stable world that can be traversed. This is what we can expect for any gameplay we get in 2017. Also there is unlikely to be much of a combat system at any point, but a very simplified one may be possible.
Other mechanics that are planned to be added to VoxElyria include:
